CHALLENGE

Create an illustration to be printed onto t-shirts, intended as holiday gifts for employees’ children at Amplitude Studios.

SOLUTION

SOLUTION

The primary inspiration for the design was Endless Dungeon as it was the upcoming video game at Amplitude Studios at that time. Subtle references to other Amplitude IPs were also integrated into the design.

The illustration featured a child-like adaptation of a character from the game, wearing Christmas hats and huddled around a present to incorporate the holiday theme.

Keeping the final product in mind, the design was adapted for seamless integration on a t-shirt. Furthermore, to guarantee optimal printing results, the illustration prioritised simplicity and was formatted in the CYMK colour profile.

DESIGN REFERENCES

Endless Dungeon is a space-western themed video game about a cast of colourful characters that are marooned on an abandoned space station overrun by monsters.

Monsters inhabiting the station are categorized into four families: the bots, the bugs, the blurs, and the blobs.

The character chosen for the illustration was the Mitosis, a member of the blob family, because of its potential to be adapted into a cute, baby-like character to align with the child-friendly aesthetic of the design. To achieve this, the mitosis was given a softened appearance, simplifying and rounding its shape and giving it enlarged eyes to enhance its child-like appearance.

ADAPTING FOR THE PRODUCT

ADAPTING FOR THE PRODUCT

In the original iteration of the design, only the characters were depicted huddled around the present.

Following testing in mockups, it was determined that adaptation was necessary to enhance integration onto a t-shirt.

Subsequently, the characters were incorporated into a scene contained within a circular border adorned with decorative motifs.

Additionally, references to other Amplitude Studio IPs were added to the wall behind the characters.
